This cute little mini golfing attraction deserves a post of its own. We were planning to go to the Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf near our campground in Fort Ann, NY to see if it compared to the Pirate’s Cove in Old Orchard that we stopped at this summer (read about it here). Then we found another course that was a little closer, then another a little closer, then one right across the street from the campground. Thank you Google Maps for providing us with so many choices. Given that we don’t have any mini golf locations within about a two-hour radius of where we are from, having so many options was exciting.

As many of you know, when we set out for full-time RVing, we first head through New York to Niagara Falls. Only one of us has ever been there and it really is worth seeing for everyone. There are some other landmarks and parks we are going to stop at en route but that is the biggie for sure. The fact that we stumbled upon this mini-golf place that had holes themed for NY landmarks was purely coincidental but meant to be!
We were greeted at Hillbilly Fun Park by the friendly staff that gave us two options for courses to golf that day: either a farm animal theme or putting through New York. Given our next destination, we decided to try the New York one. The kind lady working accepted all of the ones we had crammed in our wallets from our yard sale the previous weekend, with only minimal jokes about why we were carrying so many ones…

Unbeknownst to us, the very first hole was of Niagara Falls. Obviously, a little underrepresented here, but the kids got a kick out of this and us posting on socials that we had arrived there a few weeks early. If they are impressed by this, wait until they get to the real thing!

We went on to putt through challenging holes at the Statue of Liberty, the Twin Towers, the Big Apple, the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Catskills, the NY Freeway, etc. It was a history lesson all in itself – although maybe a description of some of them would have been good to read if you were waiting for your turn at a hole. Lucky for us, we had Google to look up some info to share with the kiddos.

I will admit, this course gave us some of our highest scores ever. I wouldn’t say it was that challenging, with only par twos and threes, but it did challenge us. As it was the first day of September, there were some leaves falling – mostly from the willow trees. They were on the turf causing some obstacles for our putts. Anyone that really cared what their score was moved the leaves out of the path of their putt, while the rest of us just took the extra strokes. I’m sure it would be a lot of work for the staff to go around and clean the falling leaves off the course this time of year, especially small willow leaves.
All in all, we had a great time putting our way through New York on this course. We learned a little and we improved our game, even if just a little.

If you find yourself in the Lake George area of New York, definitely give this place a try. What might have been the best part – ice cream on site! A great game of putting, followed by a delicious ice cream. What a great way to start the fall!
