Labor Day Weekend at the Beautiful Moose Hillock Campground Resort in Lake George, New York

We had been very excited about this camping location ever since our week spent at their sister resort in New Hampshire where we spent a week in July. See a snippet of that trip here:

When preparing our trips for the summer, we couldn’t decide on which of these two we wanted to go to, so we opted for both! A week in July in NH and then a long Labor Day weekend at Lake George. This way we could experience them both and see if we preferred one over the other.

These resorts are both known for their large heated swimming pools. They truly are amazing! Lots of flowing water, 2 water slides each, plenty of lounge chairs surrounding the pool, and children and adults alike smiling and laughing.

What we really enjoyed during our last stay in July was the nighttime movies offered poolside. The staff would set up a projector and a kid’s movie would be played that could be watched poolside or while splashing around in the pool. It was a really fun experience given that the pool was heated (even warmer than the air). We really looked forward to repeating this at the NY location, but apparently, their movie nights were done the Thursday night right before the long Labor Day weekend. Why? I don’t know. Seems like an ideal time with a pretty full campground.

What we love about both of these campgrounds is the spacious, wooded sites. Many people think of RV campgrounds as being giant fields with motor homes packed in like sardines. That is not the case at Moose Hillock.

The sites have plenty of room for anything between tents, to popups, to giant motor homes with plenty of room to spare. Take a look at the campground map – HUGE AND SPREADOUT! And the map doesn’t even show you that it’s all wooded between each site.

While camping here we were able to use our new site sign for the first time! We ordered this custom sign right from Amazon. We love how it came out! It was affordable and shipped quickly. Click here to see options for your own site sign. The debate now is whether we want some sort of a white background behind it with a light so you can see it at night or leave it as is.

This was also our first camping trip to New York in the camper, so Aliyah was able to add another sticker on our US map! View that video on our Facebook page here. New tradition alert! We can’t wait to see that map fill in more and more as we travel.

Seeing how bare the rest of the back of the camper is though – we went on and ordered out website decal for the back from Etsy – still waiting for that to come in. Next will be a QR code to the website as well as our social media links. You never know who is sitting in traffic behind you and may want to subscribe, right?

With our parents in town with us, we decided to show off our mini-golfing skills we’ve all acquired this year. Well we didn’t really end up showing off at all, we did find a great little mini-golf spot directly across the street from the campground. Read the write up of Hillbilly Fun Park here. We chose the golf through NY course, teaching us about all the different sites and attractions in New York, including the Statue of Liberty, Twin Towers, the Baseball Hall of Fame, etc. It was a great little amusement park that we found by chance and had a great time at. And this little gem had ice cream on site. Perfect follow up to a game of putting.

What is very popular at both Moose Hillock Camping Resorts are golf carts. I believe some seasonal sites have their own they brought, but the campground has tons for rent as well. I’ve been told to reserve them early if you are interested as they sell fast. They were very popular at both campgrounds with campers taking them to the pool, to the playground, to the trash, or just tooling around the campground. We chose to walk or bike, but may definitely do this in the future since the camp site really is spread out.

Aliyah was so excited to find out that on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, the campground offered free pony rides. In talking to the people that brought the ponies, they do this at the end of summer for this campground each year. There was quite a line of children waiting, but it did not disappoint. She will be talking about this for some time! I can’t wait to see her excitement for some of the other pony/trail rides we have planned at some of our other destinations. The girls and their love of horses!

Per usual, we completed our walk around the campground each morning while camping here. Usually we look for sites that we would like to stay at next time. With these two campgrounds, that is not really necessary. All of the sites are large and wooded and we’d be happy at any of them. For this NY campground, we would probably choose a site a bit further away from the entrance for a little less traffic going by the site.

What was gorgeous first thing in the morning on these walks though was the pool area. No commotion or noise – just calmness. It really was beautiful.

I believe the two Moose Hillock campgrounds are true gems, especially if you are a family with kids. The sites are private, the pool is amazing, and the conveniences are all there. The only thing we should have done while there is explored the Lake George area since we were right there. We kept mostly to the campground as it had what we needed. With the traffic on Labor Day weekend, we decided to stay where we are. Next time, perhaps a longer stay is in order so we can explore more. Until then….
